The pieces that I create are a bit industrial, a bit organic and perhaps a bit off beat. Through simple elegant design, my work reflects the appeal of the subtle imbalance of asymmetry.
I’ve worked from my home studio in Minneapolis using traditional metal smithing techniques including forging, forming, piercing, soldering, keum boo fusing and casting since 1998. My primary media are sterling silver, pearls, gemstones and gold. The evolution of my work was slow, teaching me that patience and persistence can bring joyful bursts of discovery by learning to design in a more three dimensional perspective. Shunning the ‘shiny’, I favor the distinctive soft glow of the brushed satin finish on my pieces that develops more depth and character the longer they are worn.
Art and design were early loves in my life, put aside briefly for a career in science. This journey is a return to those roots and it feels very right.

Garnet Leaf Ring
This simple but striking ring features an 8 mm deep red faceted bezel set round garnet. The 3 mm band is accented with two small clean-line leaves. The band is oxidized to a charcoal grey to make both the leaves and the stone visually ‘pop’.
