I am currently one of the many artists creating in the Northrup King Building in Northeast MN. I am a member and current President of the Colleagues of Calligraphy, here in Minnesota and a member of the Minnesota Center for Book Arts (where you can find some of my hand-made books for sale), and NEMAA.

My original works have been exhibited and garnered various awards and recognition throughout Pennsylvania (where I used to live), Ohio and Florida and many pieces reside in private collections in the US and Canada and Australia.

I am honored to have had work published in Letter Arts Review Annual Review, which is internationally recognized as the preeminent magazine for calligraphers and lettering artists and an award-winning quarterly journal.

I am married to my dearest friend with whom I have two sons who, by far, are my greatest creations.

My current work (whether readable or not) is an attempt to demonstrate the impact of hand-written words. We are bombarded with digital fonts, memes, and virtual text that, to me, makes any message less personal. There are exceptional font designers, graphic designers and typographers who are very good at getting their message across; however, I am more interested in exploring how much more meaningful and inspirational words and abstract calligraphic lines can be when there is evidence of their creation by the human hand.

I choose words (other’s or my own) that move me; words that reflect on my own life, my own development. It is always my hope that the words I choose – even a single word – can speak to others as well. Do the words or lines convey a meaning or conger an emotion? Do they cause the viewer to think differently? Do they open a door to an idea? Are the words comforting or challenging?

We see all too often how easy it is to type and share hateful, divisive words. It is my hope that creating and sharing words of compassion and reflection, I can touch another human’s heart in some positive, productive way.

I teach calligraphy in my studio and have developed workshops geared toward the beginner through experienced calligrapher. Check my website for details.

Create to counter the hate.
