Danica Bleess is an ecological mixed media artist driven to both teach and share the practice of art. Danica received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, studying both psychology and art. Her background in the study of humans, emotions, consciousness and behaviors greatly inspires her art practice. Through the incorporation of found and recycled materials mixed with a wide variety of art mediums, Danica serves as an environmental activist driven by the concept that everything has value and beauty if viewed in the right light. “It is nature and the human experience, recycled!” Danica has stated when describing her most current work.
After receiving her masters in Art Education from the University of Minnesota, Danica has recently been focused on bringing individuals of all ages into interactive community art events and classes. Danica’s background in both art, psychology and social work allow her to teach in a therapeutic manner as well as relate to individuals of all backgrounds. She uses this outreach not only to help others process their own feelings but also to press others to view the world in a new way. As Danica works to impact others, she is also influenced and inspired in her own art practice by the stories, cultures and recycled objects she encounters.
It is Danica’s own personal goal to be able to express and create with any materials or “waste” that she may find or that may be donated to her. By showing others that beauty can be found in all places she works to express the idea that Happiness is handmade. Danica is currently a working memeber of North East Minneapolis Art Associations (NeMAA) and Artspace Jackson Flats, where her studio resides.
