Emma Wood (b. 1995) (they/them/hen)  is a Swedish American visual artist based in Minnesota. Originally a painter, in recent years Wood’s choices of medium went through a considerable change.  Exploring the temporary/biodegradable works that specifically benefit the environment through mycoremediation started to shape their artistic practice. Inquiries into utilizing fungi as an artistic medium and developing projects with multidisciplinary approach Wood’s work investigates the issues of identity, Swedish heritage, environmentalism and grief. Their work is inspired by personal experiences as well as external influences of temporary existence, process of decomposition and life cycles.

With a background of working in facilitation of international interdisciplinary art residencies as a resident coordinator between 2015-2018. Emma is now residing in Minnesota and focusing on their studio practice. Wood is an artist at FOCI MCGA Studio Artist Program and pursuing introductory glass arts and mycelium research.

Emma is a currently an Emerging Artist in Residence at Franconia Sculpture Park under April 7th- June 4th 2021. They will be installing a biodegradable sculpture made of mycelium that will be on view for 9 months.
