Kim Heidkamp is a visual artist working in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In a time when screens are at the forefront of our lives, I find the desire to create work that gives the eye a much different experience. In the tactile way you might sink your hands into the dirt, I hope to create the same sensation for your sense of sight. Using individually cut paintings that have been stacked in layers, there is an illusion of movement, often growth or pouring downward. Because each painting is static, you can visit that moment over and over again to reexamine it as if it has been paused. The viewer can be drawn in as the piece beckons them to reflect and experience a peacefulness. My hope is to represent a singular moment in a complex and ever active thought process, which would initiate the dismantling of that moment.
Each sculptural painting seems to be a section from some larger, mysterious object. It may nearly remind you of something familiar, but not quite. Within each artwork I hope to create a space for imagination and contemplation.
