Kristine’s art is an exploration of intimacy. She brings the viewer up-close to the forms in nature she loves to paint— so close, that one might wonder what is this? Intimacy is a rare treasure. Real intimacy means being present with the miracle of each breath, completely experiencing each sight, sound, taste, touch or smell. True intimacy requires physical, sensory awareness in the present moment; it’s a felt sense beyond words. Using formal elements of painting and design, Kristine blends abstraction and realism to evoke a sensual connection to her subject matter. Her artworks have a voice. Colors, textures, rhythms and patterns call out to the senses, and in turn, open us to a vivid awareness of the world around us.

Kristine Fretheim’s watercolors are in collections across the Midwest, including the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, MO, and have been honored in exhibits throughout the United States. She received formal invitation to join the Watercolor USA Honor Society in 2011. Fretheim is a popular watercolor instructor and exhibition juror.
