Lesley Walton is a Twin Cities artist who enjoys creating both oil paintings and graphite pencil drawings. Her love of people and the character seen through a single expression has inspired her to focus on portraiture.
Her theme in her paintings is of nostalgia revisited… as a child, and still as an adult getting lost in old black and white films and old photos for hours. The nostalgia theme started with a body of work in her Graduation Yearbook Series that was inspired from old yearbook photos, which are brought to life with colors that form personalities and bring them out of their mundane black and white worlds. That concept grew into many paintings reinvented from photos that might still be lying in the bottom of drawers. The yearbook series provides limitless possibilities as she looks to new bodies of work with pop culture groupings in this format.
Her graphite drawings take on a very spiritual feel approaching each subject as not just a face, but pulling from and showing the spirit within each individual with the warmth of the graphite tones.
Her recent gel transfer retro series is a fun, pop-art style collage series of paintings created under the sudo name of “Lady L.”
