Mark Fry Images
I got into painting just a few years ago, after age 50. It was while going through a difficult time in my life when Sioux Falls artist Brad Kringen invited me to his studio and presented me with some brushes and canvases and then essentially told me to paint anything I wanted, when my artistic potential first emerged.
Growing up in Montana, I had early exposure to Charles M. Russell, as well as art professor Walter Hook and Monte Dolack. While in college, I was privileged to meet Cliff Potts, who drew and painted with his fingertips and a specialized device attached to his wheelchair. After moving to Sioux Falls in the 1990’s, I met and helped Brad Kringen and watched him develop as a successful artist over the years.
My own style is largely abstract and expressionistic. I have incorporated mixed media as well as acrylics into my work. I am constantly searching for new subjects to paint, such as flowers, animals and outer space themes. I enjoy putting lots of color, texture and movement into my pieces.
