My name is Philipo Dyauli and I am a self-taught artist from Singida, Tanzania currently living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My art is primarily acrylic paintings and is inspired by my favorite painters, musicians, Saturday morning cartoons, film, and graphic design. I incorporate my Tanzanian roots and personal experiences to create work that reflects my life in the United States and East Africa. This often involves depictions of favorite family traditions, friends and personal heroes. My professional experience as an artist began over two years ago when one of my pieces was accepted into Public Functionary’s Wintertide biennial exhibition. I am currently a part of Studio 400 residency program with full support of mentors and artists from multiple disciplines.

A Tale Of Two Cities
This piece started with me trying to capture all the different ways we get food and the diverse people connected to that process. It’s more important now than ever to think about those around us, especially workers risking their lives to provide us with essential services.
Then on Monday, May 25th one of our Brothers was slain by a police officer while 3 others stood by. I’ve received numerous messages urging me to keep a record of this artwork because it shows the beauty before the calamity. It is about representing the hardworking black and brown people who hustle daily to strengthen their businesses and communities.
Lake street has a special place in our heart because it supplies us with a variety of food, music, clothing, Art and Jobs. The recent damage to Lake street falls on the Minneapolis Police Department and their inability to protect its people.
I believe in our city to be resilient through this Injustice. As you can see the clean up efforts, food drives and medical care is all done by volunteers from the community. The anger within will be channeled towards donating, creating Art for awareness & VOTING. The courage I’ve witnessed around me is unstoppable, let’s build on that momentum to make our home a better place to live.
ALL THE PROCEEDS WILL BE DONATED!
